Shelly, Thank you for sending your website and story to Alan and me. I loved reading about the decisions and committments you made through amazing life. You are quite a young woman! Many of us "soft" Americans can learn many lessons from your bravery and courage. Susan Spritz Myers Shelly, I can't be thankful enough that you appeared in my life. Knowing you is a generous gift that I cherish deeply and hope to receive for a very, very long time. Michael Webdell To My "Radio Angel" Thanks for all that you do. You are certainly the very best! Looking forward to creating new memories. Ella Bramwell, Owner Shelly, Thank you for sharing your story with me. I picked up most of the bits and pieces at some point, but the chronology makes it very clear. I knew you were a very special person from the very first time I met you. This confirms my initial feelings. I certainly wish you the very best. Chinatown, here we come! Mike Sakoff From the short span of three years that I have known her, I must say that Shelly is an adventurer, a pioneer, and a survivor all wrapped into one dynamic yet unassuming five feet one inch, eighty-five pounds of a person...a woman, as boundless in thought and as limitless in enthusiasm as I have ever met. Always the captivating personality with innate enthusiasm... she is relentless not just in the pursuit of her personal betterment, but to challenge those who seek better for themselves...Determined yet compassionate, ambitious yet patient...she is a beacon of inspiration to those who follow in her path. For those whose lives she has touched and do not truly know it, they are the blessed. Yet for those who know the effect of her aura on their daily lives, they are the very much blessed. Milan Madhani, Owner Shelly, You are truly an amazing young lady. My respect and admiration for you knows no bounds. Rick Hernandez Very inspirational. That's what makes life grand. The stories we create along the way. Celina Martin Shelly, Continue your positive attitude. May you soar higher than an eagle in your pursuit of excellence and better life...Susan & I are blessed to have an "adopted daughter" like you. May God's abundant favors, blessings, and grace chase you every moment of your life. Edgardo Rimando, President Dear Shelly, I knew you were an amazing friend. I didn't know you were such an amazing woman. You are the most amazing woman I ever know. I love you Lao Cha! Jansen Yuen I offer my heartfelt congrats on the fascinating account of your life experiences....thus far. You are destined for great things...Your voyage is not only inspirational but motivational and I only hope a little of your spirit rubs off on me! Debbie Mills Shelly, I am so blessed to have met you. I remember my first week at work, you were so kind to me...not only did you give me the time of day but you wanted to help me and teach me. As I am writing this, my eyes are filling with tears....You are a dear friend of mine, and I only wish you the best life has to offer because you deserve it. Love, I met Shelly through a pen-pal service about 13 years ago. Shelly and I exchanged letters and photos. Year after year, I received fun letters, photos with colorful frames made out of different kinds of papers. My favorites were the envelopes made out of magazine pages, and the vibrant red envelopes for Chinese New Year. Ah! And how would I ever forget the audio tape she made for me!...She has been an open book all this time. Shelly I want you to know that I am so proud to be your friend. You are the living proof of one of my favorite quotes “A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.” By Eleanor Roosevelt :o) Te quiero muchisisisisimo Your story is truly amazing. You are an inspiration and joy to those around you. We hope that your life will continue to have many more wonderful and fulfilling chapters. Liddy & Ron Bartelstein Dear Shelly, In River Valley High, I knew you as an articulate, quick witted and cheerful person who always brings great joy to those in your company. It was so sad to bid you farewell at Changi Airport in Dec 1993...I truly admire your resilience, morality, and tenacity to get to where you are today. Lijing aka Regine Hey.... So Mr Prooth was the one who guided us in the debate in high school? :) You had so little, but you made so much out of it... I'm really amazed. Jingyi Wonderfully written. Concise and inspiring. Got to know your site from my wife Regine, your high school classmate. Kudos to you. Bon Courage! Adrian Teoh Once again you out shine the rest of us mortals. It’s amazing considering all you have accomplished. I wish you the best, which is what you will get because you deserve it. Scott Christen Dear Shelly, I find your biography fascinating. I taught and advised approximately 5,000 students in my teaching career from 1963 to 2001. Only the cream of the crop could match your intelligence, determination and stamina to reach their goals. The proverb "God helps those who help themselves" fits you. In addition, your charming personality has gained you many friends. Living with us you became like a daughter to me and I appreciate your helpfulness that semester at EIU when I had to teach from a wheel chair. You are what the Book of Sirach (26,2) calls a "Mulier Fortis." "Doctor Bee" Dear Shelly; You are one amazing person! I enjoy talking to you almost on a daily basis, but had no idea you had such an amazing life. I respect all the hard work and determination that you have endured to get where you are today. From now on, when I have a bad day or feel that I cannot overcome a situation, I will think of everything that you have had to encounter in your young life. You are a role model to many and just a warm, friendly, and caring person. Pam Zona Shelly, Your story is truly amazing. It lends credence to the notion that adversity breeds strength. Despite the hardships you have endured, you have become a truly wonderful person. I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet you and I feel fortunate to call you my friend. Bradley J. Schaufenbuel, CISSP, CISM Shelly, A fantastic story with a great display of courage and desire. You represent what I believe America is about. I am proud to know you and proud to buy radio time from you. I am a very small user of WBBM yet you treat my account as if I were one of the biggest.
Ron Shapero, Owner Shelly, The story of your life will be an inspiration to all who read it. From young children who doubt that they can reach great success, to adults who feel stuck because of obstacles before them, all can benefit by emulating your persistence and definite purpose. I hope that you can draw many people to your web site to share in and become motivated by your success. Mike Fray Shelly, I commend you on your courage to always forge ahead and make the best of any situation. Renee Henning Shelly, You surely have been through it all and come out on top. You are an inspiration to me and all who read your life-story. Shelly: The story of your life is such an inspiration to us!! It is such a wonderful thing to see you rise to the top, and all the hardships on the way. Most of us would have given up. You are also a very giving person, your help with the Relay for Life was just one of your many generous acts. You also took the time to show us around your studios while in a meeting!! You have inspired me to do the best I can. Cindy & Sal Sanchez Dear Shelly, I have just read the story of your life. It is one of the most amazing, poignant, and inspiring stories that I have ever read. I first came to know you when you won the Smith-Merritt Public Speaking Contest. I could not believe that an international student, especially one whose native language was not English, could win the contest. Later I was privileged to have you in graduate class. I was certainly impressed with your ability and diligence, but I still did not know your background in detail. It is hard to realize that you had such a difficult life; you were so cheerful, optimistic, and refined in class. I am proud of you. Floyd Merritt, Ph.D Shelly, Our memories of the few precious hours we spent in your presence are very vivid to us. Your story has only made those memories even more dear to us. Just last month I shared with a congregation how we met you and the part of your story that we knew. Do you remember sitting in that little church with us and the talks that we had? Now that we have read your story we stand amazed that you never ask for help. Actually you even declined when we asked how we could help you. How amazing you really are. From the time we met you we realized you were a very exceptional person. We covet the opportunity to see you face to face again one day soon. We love you. Gail & Gloria Portenier, Minister I really enjoyed reading this. You should write a book! You learned to be strong in the face of adversity. Joan Monego, Ph.D. USA - Sunday, June 12, 2005 at 15:03:50 Enjoyed your web page. It's almost as clever as the one you built for me when you ran my computer lab at EIU. I doubt that you ever will learn to relax a little, but, now that I'm retired, I can teach you a little about that, too. Chicago probably isn't the place to study relaxation... But the East Coast beaches of North Carolina are relaxing and you're welcome to visit my Oak Island whenever you want. We're not the Riviera (yet) but the language (Southern drawl) is as challenging. We're proud of you girl. Keep your happiness alive, but remember that defining "success" is often as important as realizing it. By most people's standards, you're already there! Ken Hadwiger, Ph.D. Eastern Illinois University Charleston, IL, USA - Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 11:08:03 My dear Shelly, I love your website and your story. You are amazing. Greg Murray
